About The Castle

History

History of Château Laborde

Son of a winegrower, and after several experiences in the wine domain, they took over “Château Laborde” in 1996. This family farm covers an area of 15 hectares, including 2 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc. The conservation cellar is a 17th century building, which would have been the tithe house. The tithe was a tax levied on the peasants. The more recent dwelling house is a “mansion”. Once home to farmers. These buildings are built with stones from the quarries of St Emilion where each stone was cut in the rock, by hand.

Since 1996, my wife Nathalie and I have been producing wines from the Bordeaux Blanc, Bordeaux Supérieur and Crémant de Bordeaux appellations. Château Laborde is located very close (10 to 20 km) from the great vintages of the Gironde (Pomerol, St Emilion, Montagne, Puisseguin, Lussac). We also own plots in Lalande de Pomerol, Château Champs de Lalande and Domaine Bois de Laborde. After wine studies, Vincent, our son, joined us in November 2014. Château Laborde remains more than ever a family farm on a human scale. At the start of 2015, we increased the area of the vineyard by 8 ha, in the lalande appellation of pomerol and bordeaux superieur, bringing the operation to 25 ha.

Designation

Lalande de Pomerol

“Lalande de Pomerol” is a French red wine with a controlled designation of origin produced in the towns of Lalande-de-Pomerol and Néac. This is an appellation close to that of Pomerol from the Libournais vineyard, one of the subdivisions of the Bordeaux vineyard.

North of Pomerol, this appellation has always been in the shadow of this great red wine. This appellation is larger than that of Pomerol. The two appellations are separated by a river, the Barbanne.

Since 2008, we have been running Château Champs de Lalande, Lalande de Pomerol appellation, a small family property of 2 ha. These wines are of great finesse and can be stored for several years without worry.

Content

Grape variety

The grape varieties present are 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

The white Bordeaux is only made from Sauvignon grapes and the Crémant de Bordeaux from Semillon.

– Merlot brings roundness and tannins, rich in color
– Cabernet Franc is distinguished by its aromatic finesse
– Cabernet sauvignon gives aromas of blackcurrant and green pepper

These 3 grape varieties, when blending the wines, will highlight the qualities of each one and it is at this point that we obtain a great wine reflecting the know-how of the winegrower.
